DdukBokKi
DdukBokKi is a Korean street food snack dish. It is rice cakes, along with fish cakes and hard boiled eggs, drenched in a thick spicy sauce. This is a very simple dish and is very filling too!
Recipe I used as a guideline.
Ingredients I used:
Unsalted Chicken Broth
Hot Pepper Paste
Red Pepper Flakes
Rice Cakes (cylinder shaped)
Fish Cakes (small sheets I cut into triangles)
Green Onions
Agave Nectar
Hardboiled Eggs
Hot pepper paste, red pepper flakes, rice cakes, and fish cakes can be found in your local Asian supermarket. I purchased mine at H-mart, a Korean supermarket.
I decided to use chicken broth instead of making the soup base as indicated in the recipe, mainly because I wanted to cut down the amount of ingredients and steps needed. It makes your life so much easier using a pre-made broth. For those of you who dont like chicken broth, feel free to use beef broth; though I am not sure what the end result will taste like as I have yet to try it myself. Also, I used agave nectar instead of sugar just because I had it on hand.
If you do not want to put fish cakes in your ddukbokki, feel free to add meat instead. I am sure it would be more filling and more delicious, especially if you stir fry the meat of choice before adding your soup base!

Tips! Tricks! and Kicks!
-
If you plan on adding hardboiled eggs, make sure you boil them first before you start making your ddukbokki! It's fine to make it at the same time too, but who wants to peel off super hot egg shells as your ddukbokki bubbles?
-
Make sure to constantly stir your ddukbokki as the sauce thickens, or else the sauce will burn on the bottom!
-
Add some Ramen noodles to your ddukbokki for a super filling meal!
-
Add more red pepper flakes to your ddukbokki for a flamin' fiery snack!
