Max Bernner's

Now that the weather is getting chilly, what better way to enjoy the cold than with chocolate!

This week I headed to Max Brenner's with my friends for a girls night out. As an appetizer, we ordered the Black and Tan Beer-battered Vidalia Onion Rings. I would recommend this if you are an onion ring fan. They were crispy and the dip was interesting, as it was a ranch dip with dark chocolate. Then, we each ordered our own dish. I got "The Best B.A.L.T. that came with a side of waffle fries. This is the second time I have had this sandwich, and I have to say it was extremely salty. It may have been due to how busy the restaurant was and maybe they were short on staff, since it took forever for our food to come out as well as forever to be seated. Regardless, the waffle fries were still as delicious as I remembered. My friend had ordered the Pan-toasted Penne 'Alfredo, which was creamy and also a bit salty, but not as salty as my sandwich. Another friend ordered the Brenner Burger, which she enjoyed very much; though she did find it a bit dry. Overall, the food was not what we were expecting, especially considering that this was our second/third visit to the restaurant.

Dessert was the better part of our expierence that night. We ordered the Classic European Fondue for Two, which came with bananas, strawberries, chocolate chip cookie pieces, marshmallows, and chocolate cake. You have the option of choosing two chocolate dips out of the three (white, dark, or milk).

The service that day was lacking. It took more than 2 hours to finally be seated. (We ended up making a reservation for a later time since the restaurant was packed. So, I definitely recommend making reservations if you are going to this restaurant.) When we were finally seated, it was extremely difficult to get a server's attention to place our order. Then, it took more than an hour to get our food. That did not help since we were all starving from waiting so long. The food was mediocre compared to what we had at that restaurant from previous experiences.

Price wise, it may bleed your wallet a little as an "on a tight budget" college student. I paid about $25 including tax and tip. The best way to save money eating here would be sharing an entree with a friend and splitting the dessert. However, given that this is a restaurant in a city, $25 is on a more decent pricing for a college student in my opinion.

Overall: I do recommend coming to Max Brenners at least once, unless you are allergic to chocolate. Honestly, the restaurant may be more hyped up than it should be, but if you love chocolate or just want to experience roasting marshmallows and chocolate fondues, I say give it a try. Though my reasoning for agreeing to eat at Max Brenners would be because of their waffle fries. I love their waffle fries!
